With the rise of cryptocurrencies, new industries are constantly emerging that can benefit from the popularity of the new technology. Travala was founded in 2017 and was able to establish itself as the leading blockchain-based travel booking platform within a very short time. In a press release dated 6 July 2020, the company announced that it had entered into a strategic partnership with none other than Expedia.
Travala.com: Integration of the Expedia API Rapid
To drive Travala’s business forward, and to enable even more people to enjoy travel that can be paid for with cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, the company today presented a new collaboration. Expedia Partner Solutions (EPS) is one of the Expedia Group’s brands that will enable Travala to extend cryptocurrencies to many more travel destinations.
According to the press release, this will be made possible by integrating Expedia’s API, called Rapid. As a result, Expedia’s more than 700,000 hotels and accommodations are now available on Travala.com, which can be paid with more than 30 cryptocurrencies.
Declining confidence in the prevailing financial system is causing more and more people to use cryptocurrencies as a payment option. Alfonso Parades, Senior Vice President of Expedia Group, also sees developments of a change in preferred payment options, as he announces in the press release:
At EPS, we are passionate about innovation and recognize that booking and payment options are constantly evolving in a rapidly changing world.
Travala.com aims not only to provide as many payment options as possible, but especially to offer a wide range of bookable accommodation. With the integration of the Expedia API this should succeed:
EPS Rapid is the best API product in the travel industry, and this partnership will enable our customers to offer a wider choice and availability of accommodation, including 4 and 5 star hotels in top destinations.
In August 2019 Travala already presented a partnership with Booking.com, also a world-renowned travel booking platform.
