FC Barcelona, one of the biggest football clubs in the world, has finally completed the highly anticipated sale of tokens. The sale of Barcelona fan tokens (BAR) was facilitated through the Socios and Chiliz platforms, with CEO Alexander Dreyfus announcing the successful completion via tweet.

Launched in cooperation with blockchain fintech provider Chiliz and available through the fan voting and rewards app and the Chiliz Exchange platform, all 600,000 USD BAR tokens were quickly redeemed. Notably, $777,000 worth of tokens were sold in less than two minutes on, while demand at Socios and Chiliz exceeded supply five times over. The sale for $1.3 million was completed in less than two hours and more than $6 million was deposited before and during the flash sale.

Dreyfus said the companies had originally planned that the flash sale would take 48 hours. Although there were some delays on during the sale, the sale went much faster. „I suppose that’s why Barça is so big and also because we work hard with the cryptosphere,“ Dreyfus suggested.

FC Barcelona’s BAR tokens are designed to bring more interaction with Barça fans, FC Barcelona said in a statement. BAR token holders will be able to participate in community surveys and polls and win unique prizes such as the chance to meet players before a game.

FC Barcelona’s BAR token is just one of many sports tokens managed by the Chiliz and Socios platforms. The Italian professional football club Juventus issued its own fan token at the end of 2019. Previously, the French football club Paris Saint-Germain had also partnered with to introduce a token ecosystem in 2018.
